The Resources Regulator in NSW warns of rising near-miss incidents due to incorrect overtaking in mining areas

The Resources Regulator in NSW has identified a significant increase in the number of incidents involving equipment overtaking or passing on the incorrect side of the road in mining areas.

Each of the incidents identified by the Regulator resulted in near misses, placing workers involved at serious risk.

Both the Regulator and the mine operators investigated the reported incidents and near misses. Investigations suggest these incidents were preventable if site procedures were followed, or if a thorough job hazard analysis (JHA) was completed and the identified controls were applied. Investigations also suggest vehicle operators should maintain situational awareness and recognise the changing circumstances of their work environment.
