Haul truck engine module narrowly misses workers

The NSW Resources Regulator has issued a safety alert (PDF, 469.9 KB) after it received notification of a near miss where 2 workers avoided being hit or crushed by a moving engine module.

Two workers were installing an engine module in the engine bay of a haul truck when it slid back on the supporting tracks, narrowly missing both workers.

This dangerous incident was not immediately reported, nor the incident scene preserved.

The Regulator urges mine operators to have clear and concise communication between work parties and workers in control of cranes. When incidents occur, workers must clearly and accurately convey the events related to any incident or near miss to their supervisor.
