Wet weather to continue

Mine operators should review their emergency preparedness and risk controls leading into summer and the Christmas break.

The Bureau of Meteorology forecasts above median rainfall and warmer maximum temperatures for NSW.

Operators need to consider conditions that may impact the health and safety of workers, such as flooding, flood water and emergency service’s ability to respond to incidents, storms and high winds, extreme heat and grass fires.

Factors to consider include current mine hazards, such as water levels and fire fuel loads, response capabilities, considering leave and supplier shutdowns, and systems to manage heat stress, including worker awareness to symptoms and how to respond.
