Rehabilitation guideline updated

We have updated our guideline on rehabilitation objectives and completion criteria (PDF, 777.29 KB) to further assist industry with submitting statements.

Under clause 12, in Schedule 8A of the Mining Regulation 2016, mining lease holders must prepare a rehabilitation objectives statement, and rehabilitation criterial statement, and submit them for approval.

Updates to the guideline include:

  • clarification that statements must be submitted online via the Regulator Portal.
  • additional guidance on rehabilitation completion criteria statement approval, when some criteria are approved and others require further refinement.
  • a new ‘Spatial reference field’ section, including guidance on creating an alphanumeric code for each final land use and mining domain to spatially link rehabilitation objectives/rehabilitation completion criteria
  • a new ‘Explanatory note 3: Underground mining areas and final land use domains’.
  • advice that ecological rehabilitation objectives should comprise 3 separate objectives dealing with ‘vegetation composition’, ‘vegetation structure’ and ‘ecosystem function’.
  • advice that lease holders are strongly encouraged to utilise example rehabilitation objectives and consider the example rehabilitation completion criteria provided
  • an update to Table 1 to better align with the Resources Regulator Portal.
